Established as an annual summer arts school workshop program, SASFY has quickly gained
recognition for providing rewarding and valuable educational opportunities for youth. Funding from Central Okanagan Foundation has assisted in the development and ongoing success of this program that brings young participants together to learn about the creative process and reach new heights in personal achievement. SASFY’s unique inter-connection of arts workshops offers a variety of disciplines in performance, language, and visual arts, including fashion design and culinary arts.
In addition to community grants, donations and contributions, SASFY’s success stems from its collaboration with School Superintendent Hugh Gloster, School District #23, and the District and Council of Lake Country. The SASFY program takes place in August at George Elliot Secondary School & Lake Country Creekside Theatre. Participating instructors are accomplished and passionate Okanagan artists, teachers and performers.
SASFY was created by Claudia Kargl and Jim Gray, in memory of Claudia’s mother, a painter who died in 2008. Having been denied an education in the arts as a child, Claudia’s mother instilled her love and passion of the arts in her daughter who continues that passion by giving back to the community.
