Message from the Board Chair & Executive Director
The past year was one of many milestones as the celebrations of the Central Okanagan Foundation’s 40th Anniversary unfolded. In preparation for the official anniversary date of January 31st, we produced both a historical video and a special publication celebrating the highlights of COF’s first 40 years.
We created a lasting legacy to honour our anniversary by establishing the Central Okanagan Foundation 40th Anniversary Volunteer Spirit Scholarships. With the income generated from four endowments of $40,000 each, these scholarship funds will provide annual awards to community minded students from each of our region’s municipalities: Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country.
In 2017, our 40th Anniversary also coincided with Canada’s 150th Birthday. We recognized our nation’s sesquicentennial by participating in a special initiative facilitated by Community Foundations of Canada which combined funding from local community foundations, the Government of Canada and other leaders from across the country. COF was delighted to deliver 10 grants totaling $100,000 to local community organizations to help them commemorate Canada’s special birthday.
Another event worth noting was the move to our new office. After an extensive search led by our New Office Committee, COF moved into an excellent renovated space on the third floor of the Landmark 1 Building at 1726 Dolphin Avenue in Kelowna. This office is centrally located and is completely accessible with lots of guest parking available. If you haven’t had a chance to visit us yet, we would be delighted to welcome you for a personal tour.
One of the most important milestones COF has achieved in our first 40 years is our ability to direct hundreds of vital grants back into our community. In fact, this year COF has surpassed the $12 million mark in cumulative granting since our inception in 1977, thereby meeting the needs of our community.
We would like to sincerely thank the thousands of people that have supported the Central Okanagan Foundation over our first four decades. As we look forward to the future, we do so with the optimism and confidence that we will continue to grow and thrive along with our remarkable community.
