Over $600,000 to 26 local charities The Central Okanagan Foundation distributes over $600,000 to 26 charities as part of its spring 2019 grant cycle. The Central Okanagan Foundation supports charities in the areas of youth and family, arts and culture, education, heritage and historical, health, global and the environment. This spring’s funding ranges from a first and only Canadian Opera on film to a Legal Advocate that will fill the justice gap for low income families waiting for legal aid. The foundation’s Director of Grants and Community Initiatives Cheryl Miller explained the foundation’s mission is to contribute to the quality of life in the Central Okanagan through the raising and stewardship of entrusted funds, innovative and diverse granting, and active community leadership. “We have been actively supporting local charities since 1977” said Miller “We are pleased to continue to make a difference in our community through supporting 13 one year project and 13 multi – year operating grants. A list of current and past year charities receiving funding can be found on the foundation’s website. The purpose of the foundation is to accept and invest charitable donations in endowment funds, so that investment income can be distributed as grants to charities across the Central Okanagan. Since only the investment income is spent, the endowment capital is preserved, allowing the Central Okanagan Foundation to support important community organizations year after year.
