We also call your attention to the fact that the long passage of time can outdate a fund's initial purpose. A fund for a disease that has now been conquered would be an example. A fund for an organization that has ceased to exist would be another. Organizations sometimes change their missions, merge with others, or change their programs. Our Board has the authority to amend a fund's purpose so as to carry out a donor's intent, if through a change in circumstances, the donor's original instructions cannot be carried out. This authority is outlined in the variance clause in our agreement. Our intent is to honour the original intent of the donor above all else.
